Navigating the career and motherhood and deciding how would design a version of an integrated life. shine started her professional journey looking up the ladder and very focused on launching her career, moving up as quickly as possible, and defining success by her professional achievements. As she moved through her career and worked at different companies, that’s when life started to change; in 2010 She became a mother! Becoming a mother changed her entire perspective on what she want in life to be and how she wants to live it. she could never have been prepared for her journey as a working mother and the different choices she would make to pursue the career and she wants to be the mom she wants to be. In addition to her own internal struggle and tensions, the same debate has been playing out in the external world as well. Lean In. Motherhood Penalty. Ban “Bossy”. Work/Life Balance. Opt-out. Workplace flexibility. Gender pay gap. Gender balance. All of these concepts have been pervading her thinking and her psyche, as there has been more and more focus on women in the workplace playing out publicly.
luckily for her, she had a friend to guide her and helped her with tough situations. Particularly in tough times, we need to balance situations and act accordingly. we need to choose the opt-out from the workforce or bear the pressure. Then my friend helped me to get the option. She helped her to get really clear on her priorities, her non-negotiables, and what she really wanted so she could make a decision that would be right for her family and for her. A friend helped her to build up her confidence to have the courage to ask for what she wanted and to realize there was an entire spectrum of options. After she had a second child last year, she hit another turning point in terms of aligning her values, her work, and her new identity as a mom of two. You have just ONE LIFE, how do you want to live it?” These words have stuck with her and she often uses them as a friend of other working moms. This friend gave her a new lens through which sees her life and makes decisions. And friend also helped me get crystal clear about my priorities and my conviction around designing the life she wants. This led to making many difficult decisions and ultimately, making different choices at different stages of her career and motherhood. Her vision of success has changed through the years and that has meant moving up, moving back, and moving side to side throughout her career thus far. she was very grateful to her friend and now tries to pay it forward because she experienced firsthand the power of friend heal and how it has actually empowered me. Her tips for navigating work and motherhood are based on the lessons she learned along the way:
Stand for your choices. Don't feel guilt for your choice.
Think about what is possible to do.
Be bold and Strong.
Stay Positivity.
